Air Serv Trainer Comes a Long Way

Air Serv employee Vinay Balan was born in India and grew up in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. He received his bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from India, but he had a longtime dream of coming to the United States and decided to continue his education there. He applied and was accepted at Central Missouri State University, where he later received his master's degree in aviation safety.

After graduating, Vinay looked for an opportunity in which he could apply his newfound knowledge in aviation. In May 2004, he found that perfect opportunity at Air Serv. The company was looking for a Safety Coordinator, and Vinay had all the credentials the company was looking for in the position. Although Vinay was thrilled about being offered the position, he said, "It was a bit confusing, as you come in with all this knowledge but you have to learn how to apply it. They say having knowledge is wisdom, applying it is smart. However, Air Serv showed me the way."

Vinay attended some procedural training seminars and safety meetings taught by Air Serv. Once the training phase of his employment was completed, it was time to jump in and apply the knowledge he had learned. In just eight months, Vinay has taken over training for the new operation that started in December at the Reno/Tahoe International Airport, in addition to his duties as Safety Coordinator at the San Francisco International Airport operations.

"I've come along way in a short time," says Vinay. "However, none of this would have been possible without the assistance and advice I get from senior management. They have been very patient with me, given me the room to grow and have molded me in to finer product. I am looking forward to an exciting future with Air Serv."
