Snow Job in Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – Howling winds and blinding snow blasted the city of Boston and Logan International Airport over the weekend of January 22, 2005.  As bad as it was, it didn’t stop Air Serv Corporation from providing shuttle bus service to over 500 Delta employees. Air Serv employees took inspiration from the U.S. Postal Service, “ neither snow, nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

Since October 2004, when Air Serv was awarded the employee bus contract with Delta Air Lines, Air Serv has provided two buses, running 24 hours-a-day to move the airline’s employees from off-site parking lots to the main terminal building.  “It was brutal”, said Edwin Smith, VP of Transportation for Air Serv, referring to the Antarctic-like weather conditions. “The blizzard dropped over two feet of snow in a 24-hour period and created white-out conditions that were driven by near-hurricane force winds. But we never stopped our service to our customers and had no accidents.”

Smith credited his service team for this incredible feat. “Even though many roads were closed and impassable, all our drivers showed up and we never missed a beat! Once again, our team in Boston delivered!”

Since the blizzard, Boston has had its snowiest January in history – 43.1 inches of snow fell on Boston and its airport. Despite the snow and an older bus fleet (one bus has over 300,000 miles), bus service has run like clockwork.

Over the next several weeks, Air Serv-Boston is looking forward to accepting delivery of two state-of-the-art buses to replace the existing buses it uses. “It will be a great improvement and will help our people deliver an even higher level of service”, added Smith. “That’s what Air Serv is all about!”
